Virginia Ivanicki has been a professional artist for over
thirty years, showing her work at galleries across Canada and in
the United States in a one woman and group shows. She has produced
hundreds of paintings that have been collected world wide. She’s
designed and painted sets for live action and theatre productions,
produced work for magazine covers and designed colour for numerous
animation productions. Considering these assignments as experimentation,
she has worked in almost every medium and found oils to be far and
above the most exciting. She has a profound hunger to create more
worlds with them, explore further depths and follow her curiosity
with avid tenacity.
Simply put, Virginia Ivanicki’s
paintings explore character. Individuality is always an endangered
quality. But there are places in time and space where mankind
explodes with individuality. It is those necessary eruptions she
wants to explore, celebrate and commemorate. Just as her subjects
come and go throughout the decades, disappearing, rising again
from the slag heap of society, she layers their images. They have
depths that go beyond canvas. Something solid comes of the whole
process. An image that is sometimes abstract in it’s parts,
but allegorical in it’s totality.
